This moment is a crisis point in the Colombian peace process

This moment is a crisis point
As we return home from Colombia we are reflecting on this particular moment in the peace process as so many identified it as a crisis point.

Rev. Diego Higuita, the Secretary General of the IPC, said to us that this moment feels as though we are either moving into a future of peace or a past of war. Our partners at IPC have said our presence is vital for supporting their peace work.

We are continuing to explore what accompaniment looks like in this era, and we are excited to share more with you as we return home.

Join us by registering for a full debrief of our trip: Sept 8 at 7:00pm ET. Register here for that conversation.
Visiting the ETCR's
We visited three ETCR* communities this month and it was clear that the majority of FARC ex-combatants remain fully committed to peace, and yet the government is not fulfilling their agreements.

FARC combatants laid down their weapons on, among other things, the promise of government assistance in setting up life as a civilian including housing, land, and monies to set up farms and businesses that can become self-sustaining over time. The people we met in three reintegration communities are passionate and sincere in their desire to move forward in creating better lives for themselves and their children.

* ETCR is a Territorial Spaces for Training and Reincorporation (Espacios Territoriales de Capacitación y Reincorporación) are locations where FARC members are living in community while they work to reintegrate into civil society.
The Peace Accords
Copies of the Peace Accords which were signed in 2016.
They comprise 10 volumes and are at the Casa de Memoria at an ETCR in what PPF Accompaniment Coordinator Alison Wood described as, "a museum of their struggle."
