The Confederate Flag is a painful symbol of thousands of lives lost, and a country broken.  It is the symbol of the slave owner.  A symbol of hatred and division, and a symbol of white power that cannot continue in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd.
Every time the descendants of slaves see that flag, they feel generational pain that is both grotesque and misunderstood.
It costs MONEY - OUR MONEY - to keep these flags of hate flying.
ANY symbol that divides us be removed.  Finally, a new day is dawning.

Change.org - Investigate Fort Hood

Several soldiers from the Fort Hood military base have ended up either missing or dead this year. In June, Vanessa Guillén’s body was found after she was missing for weeks. And this week the body of Sgt. Elder Fernandes was discovered on nearby railroad tracks. That has many wondering why so many soldiers from Fort Hood are facing terror. Thousands signed this petition demanding a Congressional investigation into Fort Hood. Add your name to help the families of these soldiers get answers.
CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION FOR FORT HOOD- JUSTICE FOR ALL SOLDIERS FOUND DEAD
13,222 have signed San Diego For Vanessa Guillen’s petition. Let’s get to 15,000!

We demand a congressional investigation for all the deceased soldiers found at Fort Hood Base. It is unacceptable that so many soldiers have been found in the recent weeks yet nothing is being done and justice has not been served.

The families deserve answers, the soldiers deserve answers, WE THE PEOPLE DESERVE ANSWERS!

Change.org - Tucker Carlson

In the wake of the recent shooting at a protest in Wisconsin, Erika from Washington D.C. launched a petition in which she states FOX News broadcaster Tucker Carlson “offered justification for Kyle Rittenhouse,” the suspected gunman. Now, Erika is asking for Carlson to be fired for his “increasingly dangerous” claims.
Remove Tucker Carlson

Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson is well-known for making controversial, inflammatory, and often outright false claims. His comments, however, are becoming increasingly dangerous.
In a recent broadcast, Carlson offered justification for Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17 year old that killed 2 protestors in the name of "protecting property" and "maintaining order".
But Kyle Rittenhouse did not do that. Kyle Rittenhouse used a rifle to murder two people.
To quote Carlson: "How shocked are we that 17 year olds with rifles decided to maintain order when no one else would?"
When a Black man is killed by police, Carlson implies that he’s a thug. When a White boy kills two protestors, Carlson implies that he’s a patriot and a hero.
This is not a partisan issue. These comments, as well as others made on recent broadcasts, are exemplary of blatant racism and fascism. This is disgusting and unacceptable. We demand that those who provide ads to Carlson’s program withdraw from their agreement with his show and that Tucker Carlson be removed from the air immediately.

Join us and VOTE with compassion!

There is something sacred about our vote.
It’s partly the dignity that it represents. The way it proclaims that every person matters. That every person no matter their race, creed, or color can have equal and fair access to shape their community with their vote.
It’s partly the knowledge that great sacrifices have given more and more people this fundamental right.
That’s why, when people are actively denied that right, it is immoral. Wrong. Profoundly sinful.
In recent months, the pernicious influence of racism on access to voting has become clearer than ever. Black and Latinx communities, who are suffering at far higher rates from the coronavirus pandemic and the climate crisis, have also been disproportionately impacted by closed polling sites, hours-long voting lines, and logistical and technological issues in primary elections around the US.
These impediments to voting are abhorrent for the racism they perpetuate. These same impediments also have a massively negative impact on climate change policy. Research has shown consistently that African American and Latinx communities are more likely to be concerned about climate change than Whites. This means that voter suppression systematically diminishes support for strong climate change policies- support which is vital if states and the nation are to adopt the policies needed to meet the current threats we face.
In other words, it is literally true that there will be no climate justice without racial justice.
That’s why GreenFaith has launched the Compassionate Voter campaign - to raise awareness about the links between voter suppression, climate change and racial equity. Corporate climate polluters should not have more power in deciding elections than the people do. Together, we as people of faith can organize our communities and congregations to cast compassionate and righteous votes.
The implications that this election will have on the climate are irreversible and cannot be undone. At this critical moment we can do something about this issue. We can come together with others in our GreenFaith community to learn new skills. We can reach out to engage others in a thoughtful, open-hearted way. We can help others get registered to vote, help them figure out how to safely cast their vote in the midst of these challenging times, and ensure that this election is a fair democratic process.
You can make a difference.
Join us next Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 12pm or 8pm ET. You’ll hear from faith leaders ranging from their 30’s to their 70’s about what this issue means and why it is a matter of life and death.
We’ll have special opportunities for clergy to get involved and to raise their voices in support of the right to vote. I’ll be tuned in and I hope you’ll join me.
Let’s vote with compassion!

Virtual Peacemaking and Real Justice

Carl HortonLike everyone, the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program has been in a season of shift. It reminds me of the difference between driving an automatic and manual transmission automobile. They both get you where you’re going, but the shift makes a difference. Going "manual" takes a bit more attention, focus and finesse, and it can be a herky-jerky ride. Since March, we’ve shifted the way we do our peacemaking work and it’s been a bit of a ride. We’ve gone online, like everything else, and it’s caused us to be more creative, do more digitally and to focus on our resources. We’ve also taken time to reexamine and provide new resources for the historic Presbyterian Commitment to Peacemaking.

And while we’ve been moving the Peacemaking Program onto virtual platforms, at least for the time being, the work of justice has moved into the public square and been very real indeed. Demonstrations here in Louisville and in countless other cities make it clear that there can be no peace without justice. We invite you to join us, peacemakers, in the justice work that has been placed before us, for it is the clearest path forward to peace.
