The United States Postal Service is an essential part of our national infrastructure and economy that helps connect our communities and businesses. While the USPS is self-funded and normally doesn’t receive any federal funding, this year they need emergency funding to keep serving the public, making sure that folks are able to get their vital prescription medications, businesses don’t suffer, and everyone who needs to is able to reliably vote by mail.
Any effort to slow down the mail, including the withholding of emergency funding, will do significant harm and is a form of voter suppression. Call your senators and tell them to save the USPS.
At Sojourners, we are sorting out the tension between our publishing work and our advocacy and organizing work. We are also examining our organizational culture to reflect the more just and beloved community we strive to build. While we take the necessary steps to grow, we are pausing some of our organizing work. However, there is some crucial advocacy that must continue. Ensuring that communities have access to essential services is vital.
It is important for people of faith to call their senators, asking them to preserve the Postal Service; this is one way for people of faith to show our love for our neighbor. Here’s what you can ask your senator to do:
In faith,
