Change.org - Removing closed captions?

YouTube is removing the option for Community Captions. Petition starter Johnny argues that the ability for everyone to add closed captions onto videos made the platform more accessible to all. They think captions are a vital tool for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Join their campaign to tell YouTube not to exclude these users.

On July 30th, 2020, Youtube announced that they will be removing Community Contributions, a feature that lets anyone contribute translated video titles, descriptions, closed captioning, and subtitles that the uploader has not.
Community Contributions is a vital tool for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, as well as those who do not speak English as a first language. By disabling this feature, these communities will be unable to view and understand most Youtube videos, and will be excluded from accessing educational, informational, and entertaining content. Viewers have until September 28th, 2020 to submit their contributions, and will be forced to use auto-captioning or auto-translated subtitles from then on.
