As 2021 approaches its conclusion, we’re looking ahead.
In the wake of COP26, we know you’re feeling concern, fear, and anger about the failure of governments, corporations, and financial institutions to address the climate emergency effectively and justly.
Climate change weighs heavily on all of our hearts.
It’s easy to forget that there ARE pathways to a sustainable and just future, that the climate movement is growing in strength, and that many social movements enjoy breakthroughs only after long, challenging struggles!
Now more than ever is the time for religious groups to step forward in support of climate justice. Growing frustration must be met not by despair or apathy, but by moral imagination and an upsurge in our engagement.
We aren’t giving way to fear or discouragement; just the opposite: the GreenFaith community is just getting started.
- Because it matters when individuals take a stand, we’ll start 2022 by calling on wealthy households around the world to reject the desecration of people and planet and embrace joyful lives of simplicity and solidarity with our Time for Living the Change initiative.
- Then, at a global Faith and Climate Finance Summit in February, we’ll take on the world’s biggest asset managers - BlackRock, Vanguard and others - who are recklessly STILL financing new fossil fuel and deforestation projects.
- During 48 days starting in late March, five of the world’s largest religious (Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and Buddhism) have some of their most important sacred celebrations. Through rituals and spoken teachings, we’ll send a clear message: no new fossil fuel projects and green jobs to build back fossil-free from COVID.
- Throughout the year, we’re organizing opposition to new fossil fuel projects like the East Africa Crude Oil pipeline, gas projects in Texas, and coal development in Indonesia and Japan. We resolve to put a stop to these dangerous and destructive projects.
From coast to coast; continent to continent, our message is crystal clear: Our faiths call for an end to climate destruction and a sustainable and just future for all.
We’re so excited and grateful to partner with you in this good and holy work.
With determination,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
