For a child has been born for us

For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

A few years ago, I set out to knit a baby blanket as an Advent prayer practice. Knitting and praying have a lot of synergy, and the brain naturally enters a sort of meditative state when you knit. I had hoped to finish it by Christmas, but that didn’t happen. It took into the next year for me to finish it. But then we are reminded that the first Christmas was a largely unresolved project.
