Communities in Michigan are still reeling after the Oxford High shooting that killed four students. Since the tragedy, there has been a huge wave of copycat threats in the same district. Students are understandably shaken. They started this petition to ask administrators to make classes remote until all threats are properly assessed. We are a group of high school students in Oakland County who are concerned about our communities in light of recent events given the way school administrations have been responding. Oxford High School experienced the tragic loss of four students due to a school shooting on Tuesday, November 30th. Since that day, there has been a continuous circulation of threats made to schools within Oakland County. These widespread threats have induced fear and taken an emotional toll on all students, making in-person learning essentially useless. To serve the mental, physical, and emotional health of Oakland County students, we demand that: -All Oakland County Schools will be closed and authorized to transition to virtual schooling until Winter Break or until all copycat threats are thoroughly investigated.  -School district administrators from all districts in Oakland County release detailed and concrete plans for keeping students safe in district buildings prior to the return to in-person school. Threats to schools cannot be taken lightly and our administrators need to prioritize the safety of students.  Please continue our efforts by emailing your superintendents with the demands listed above—if you’re in Oakland county, your superintendent along with their email is listed in the Google Sheet linked below!
