Change.org Petition: Help save these animals - Mayor Gusciora - FIX YOUR ANIMAL SHELTER!

Animals don’t belong in shelters and they definitely don’t belong in shelters that are poorly run. Unsanitary conditions, overcrowding, untreated health issues, and a lack of collaboration are just some of the major issues at the Trenton Animal Shelter. Dogs are being euthanized simply because of mismanagement. Calls for change have been ignored by both the shelter manager and the Mayor. Danielle started her petition because she knows animals deserve better. She’s hoping you’ll join them in asking the Mayor to take action to fix this animal shelter.

Mayor Gusciora - FIX YOUR ANIMAL SHELTER!

Animals at the Trenton Animal Shelter are in danger. The Trenton Animal Shelter is currently grossly overcapacity, housing more than 20 dogs in their 20 kennel facility and keeping over a dozen dogs offsite in an undisclosed boarding facility in Bucks County, PA. The Shelter Manager, Officer Jose Munoz, has ignored repeated offers to help these animals from a local rescue, Trenton Animals Rock, because of personal pettiness and nothing more.

Officer Munoz has made certain volunteers "point people" and has given these volunteers unchecked authority to disallow other volunteers from offering lifesaving assistance to these animals.

These "point people" rarely interact with the dogs yet are tasked with making and upholding policy decisions around their care, up to and including how and when they are euthanized.

Many of the dogs are sick and are not receiving proper medical treatment. Many more are not being given the full opportunity for exposure because the Shelter Manager and his "point people" are refusing to allow assistance without the "point people" being in charge of every single detail.

Enough is enough.

If the Mayor of Trenton, Reed Gusciora, does not intervene immediately, animals, mostly the dogs, will end up needlessly euthanized and will continue to receive poor care in the antiquated facility on Escher St in Trenton, NJ. They all deserve much better than this.

Next week two dogs are set to be euthanized. They are both bite cases but have been in the shelter for months without training or rehab efforts being made and one of them may have an ACL injury which could be the reason she is defensive and biting.

Besides these two dogs, many dogs are also being kept in an undisclosed boarding facility and are not accessible to volunteers who care about them and want to find them homes. No one can be sure of their medical, physical or emotional condition at this time.

This complete and total disregard for life is disgusting and must be addressed immediately.

UPDATE: I am not afraid to put my name on this petition or to speak directly to anyone who want to talk about this situation. The mayor can send all the boilerplate responses he wants but he has my cell # and I have offered to sit down and work with his team on helping that shelter and those animals and he knows it. The volunteers who are in there now are complaining about issues nearly every day. There is no reason why the mayor would praise TAR and all the good we did for over two years but now allow other volunteers to refuse our help simply because they don’t like us personally. It’s completely ridiculous and I believe he will do the right thing and put a stop to this nonsense.
