WCC NEWS: Bike for Peace team wheels by WCC, voicing support for a world free from nuclear weapons

A group of bikers from the Bike for Peace visited the World Council of Churches on 30 August as part of a commemoration in the Place de Nations.  Photo: Samuel Mungure/WCC 31 August 2021 Bike for Peace is a humanitarian peace organization from Norway that works for peace, disarmament and a world without nuclear weapons. The group has been organizing campaigns for peace all over the world since 1977.  Those on the bike tour are appealing to the nine nuclear states— Russia, China, USA, Great Britain, France, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea—to dismantle their nuclear weapons. “We want to build a large network with the churches to work against nuclear weapons because they are a threat to the whole world,” said Tore Nærland, president of Bike for Peace. “We at Bike for Peace have a mission: we use the bicycle as a platform to get the word out to the people. We bike against nuclear weapons.” Bike for Peace also bikes against all terrorism. The campaign is dedicated to those injured by terrorism or war, as well as those injured after test explosions of nuclear weapons. The group is mentioning special support for the victims of the test explosions in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan. The core group of current cyclists consist of seven people from Norway and the Czech Republic. See more
