Last Saturday night, pro-Trump protestors vandalized Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, DC. Many of the persons were identified with the "Proud Boys" group, an ultra-right-wing white nationalist organization, and had attended rallies earlier in the day to support President Trumps's failed effort to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential election.
The rioters attacked the church, ripping down a "Black Lives Matter" sign (shown above) placed outside the building. A video of the vandalism is available here. Asbury United Methodist Church, another historically Black congregation, was vandalized earlier in the evening and its sign was burned.
Responding on Twitter, pastor Rev. William H. Lamar IV of Metropolitan stated, “We have not been distracted by signs, sounds, or fury for nearly two centuries. We worship. We liberate. We serve.” The church also responded via its Facebook account, "Black Lives Matter yesterday, today, and always."
