Emergency Field Hospital Opens, Begins Treating Coronavirus Patients | ||

The Samaritan's Purse Emergency Field Hospital began treating seriously ill coronavirus patients in Cremona, Italy, today. The tent facility—which includes a specialized respiratory unit—is set up adjacent to Cremona Hospital, which has been overwhelmed with sick and suffering people.

Dozens of our highly skilled respiratory therapists, doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel are treating coronavirus victims with compassionate care and partnering with local evangelical church leaders to share the Gospel. The situation in Italy is desperate, and we want them to know that God loves them and that “he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
For the past 50 years, this has been our focus—to go out into the world to serve hurting people for the sake of the Gospel. As this virus continues to kill thousands and cause hopelessness and despair, this mission is more urgent than ever. “You are bringing hope to the city—even if it is dangerous, even if it is a crisis moment,” said a staff member at Cremona hospital. “I think it is going to change my country. You are bringing light in a dark time.” People around the world are scared for many reasons right now. Never in my lifetime have I seen a virus cause this much disruption. Schools and church buildings are closed, so are restaurants and businesses. If you are in need of reassurance, I encourage you to listen to my son, Edward, as he talked to our Samaritan's Purse staff about fear during our morning devotions time. | ||

Our teams are continuing to work hard to bring relief to suffering people around the world. We will continue to monitor the situation with COVID‑19 and are in close contact with U.S. health authorities. We stand ready to deploy here in the U.S. if needed.
Please pray for those who are sick, healthcare workers, and for world leaders as they make life-or-death decisions. Most importantly, let’s all pray for an end to this terrible pandemic. | ||
