Compelled by the Gospel, PPL equips Presbyterians to champion human life at every stage PPL ENEWS SOHLS January 2023 This is your reminder that Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (SOHLS) is observed in January! This is an important year, following the Dobbs decision just six months ago - a reason to celebrate and thank God for this answer to prayer!   But hearts and minds STILL need to be changed and Christians need to be equipped in Prolife apologetics - and at the same time, assisted suicide and euthanasia are gaining traction worldwide as a direct result of the devaluing of human life rooted in abortion, surrogacy and other commodification of human life.   Please, elders and teaching elders, LEAD your congregations to observe this important event.   PPL has downloadable Sunday bulletins, worship slides and info on Dobbs and other life issues on its website at www.ppl.org     Awake! Arise! by former PPL Board Member, Martha Leatherman, MD Say with me the opening words of the Apostle’s Creed: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.”  What does that mean?  It must mean that Sovereign God makes and owns everything.           What does this have to do with the sanctity of human life?  Simply this:  human children are made by God (“...Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth”), in the image of God, and are therefore of infinite value and worth.  These children are not valuable because their parents want them or because they are convenient, but because Sovereign God made them in His image, and they are infinitely precious to Him.  We also recognize that these children ultimately belong not to us, but to the God who made us, and that He has granted us an unspeakably precious charge:  to care for, nurture, and love these babies He has made.  READ MORE

The commodification of human life, started in the abortion movement, has resulted in an overall utilitarian view of all human life, with an expansion of assisted suicide and euthanasia.    This article, "No Other Options," published online in The New Atlantis December 16, 2022, describes the horror that is Canada's "Medical Assistance in Dying" (MAiD).  The connection between abortion and euthanasia is apparent in this quote by a former OBGYN turned Euthanasia doctor:   “Green has her own term for these extraordinary events, drawing on her prior experience as an obstetrician, when she helped bring people into the world. “At both ‘deliveries,’ as I call them, I am invited into a most intimate moment in people’s lives,” she writes…”   READ MORE The Undeceptions Podcast lays out the best arguments for and against legalizing euthanasia and asking, "What view of the human person should a good society embody in its laws?" LISTEN TO PODCAST OR READ TRANSCRIPT HERE IS GOD CALLING YOU TO SERVE ON THE PPL BOARD?   We are accepting applications for new board members interested in equipping Presbyterians to champion human life. There is no formal application paperwork beyond basic personal information, membership in a Presbyterian or Reformed congregation, and a statement of your personal interest in the prolife cause and what gifts and talents you believe you could bring to the board. Please also list two or three denominational references. Your application would be followed up with a phone interview.   Board terms are three years.  We meet monthly via ZOOM and ask board members to travel to attend our annual meeting in person, at the board member's expense. We are typically hosted by a church as a mission group.  Each board member is also asked to contribute an article to one monthly newsletter per year.   If you are a medical professional, pregnancy care center manager or caseworker, or have public speaking or publishing skills, those abilities and knowledge base are always appreciated, but not required.   Our current board members represent PC(USA), ECO, PCA and RPCNA, but some board members from the ARP, EPC and PCA have recently rotated off, and we hope for more robust representation from those denominations.   Please send inquiries via email to ppl@ppl.org with "Board Member Application" in the subject line, and may God bless your heart for the unborn and their families.
