With a new year comes new opportunities to devote our time and energy to issues that matter. From working to eliminate hunger to achieving equality for our siblings who have been marginalized because of their race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender or who they love, there is a need to keep pushing against the status quo. As the Rev. Denise Anderson, CPJ director, noted in a recent piece for Unbound’s Divine Nebula, “the forces of evil, greed, and hubris are not simply going to roll over and accept a new order in which their privilege will be displaced. … Never underestimate the lengths to which power will go or that it will even endanger itself simply to retain power.”
In 2023, Compassion, Peace & Justice will continue to advocate for justice in the public arena and in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and we hope you will join us. In this issue of the monthly CPJ newsletter, we highlight efforts to combat hunger, raise awareness about new LGBTQIA+ publications, delve into challenges facing asylum seekers and more.
