There's still time to catch the wave...
Yesterday we convened a conversation with PPF leaders to hear more about the powerful actions for peace that happened at General Assembly this year.

We talked about the ongoing work in the wake of this summer's decisions. We know that we must "ride the waves of change" and move the decisions we make at GA out into the world and into our congregations.

You can be a part of making these movements for peace come alive!

Together we are ending gun violence, moving dollars away from fossil fuel industries, fighting militarism and working to abolish prisons and policing.

Read on for some of the highlights of our conversation and find out how you can take action.
Gun Violence Prevention (watch at 5:25)
This GA strengthened a 50-year commitment of the PCUSA to ending gun violence by taking four major actions: launched a decade to end violence, passed a proposal to the MRTI about gun sellers, endorsed a protocol to reduce domestic gun violence, and commended and recommended the guns to gardens movement to all congregations.

Fossil Free PCUSA (watch at 17:45)
This summer we passed ENV 10 which directed the PCUSA to divest from five fossil fuel companies: Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Marathon Petroleum, Phillips 66 and Valero Energy. It was a bittersweet win knowing that this was a much needed commitment while also knowing that our church will continue to make money off of our investments in fossil fuels. We will continue to work toward ensuring we follow through on this commitment and move as quickly as possible toward divestment. Stay in touch with us here

Peace Church Movement (watch at 29:05)
In 2018 the General Assembly recognized Peace Churches as a designation for congregations who take a stand against militarism. This year the assembly reaffirmed our commitment to ending ward passing overwhelmingly the commissioner's resolution on the Russian military invasion of Ukraine among other statements regarding international affairs. It is vital that we address the violence that is bring brought against the people and life of our planet. There will be upcoming opportunities to engage in some workshops soon! For now...

Abolition and Ending Cash Bail (watch at 38:15)
Presbys for Abolition is a newly formed group working to mobilize Presbyterians to be a part of the Abolition movement to end incarceration and policing. This year we were heartened to see the PCUSA reaffirm a commitment to ending cash bail through the Hands and Feet initiative. We are working to support frontline ministries who are working with those who are directly impacted by incarceration and have a commitment to abolition. We have raised $8,000 and have only $2,000 left to reach our goal!
