Over 3,000 transit workers participated in the Rescue and Recovery Effort after the Attack on America on September 11, 2001; and The National September 11th Memorial and Museum is the nation’s recognized repository for information and remembrance concerning the September 11th attack which brought down the World Trade Center towers; and The National September 11th Memorial and Museum has never recognized that over 3,000 transit workers were assigned by New York City Transit/MTA to respond to the attack so that they could remove debris, clean and protect MTA facilities, enable access by other responders, illuminate the site, and restore communications equipment; THEREFORE, we respectfully request that the National September 11th Memorial and Museum include a prominent exhibit at the museum, open to the public, acknowledging the important role New York City transit workers played in the rescue and recovery effort on 9/11/01 and in the days following at the World Trade Center site. | |||||||||||||||
