Invitation: Faiths for a Just Energy Transition

As we write, one third of Pakistan is underwater due to climate-induced flooding. Europe, Asia and North America have suffered through a blistering summer.

These mounting impacts make it clear that our current efforts are not enough to meet the climate threat. The world needs a legally binding response to the emergency we face as a complement to the Paris Agreement. There is no time to lose.

People of diverse faiths and of good will are organizing in response, calling for a Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty.

While the title is a mouthful, the demands are simple and meet the threats the world faces:

  • An immediate end to new fossil fuel projects

  • A rapid transition to 100% renewables and a fair phase-out of fossil fuels

  • A just transition for regions, workers and communities most affected by climate change and by the energy transition

GreenFaith, Laudato Si Movement, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and Supreme Muslim Council of Kenya are organizing a global, multi-faith event on Wednesday, 28th September to explore these three demands and the religious foundations for their support.

Register now for this global, live streamed, multi-religious event on:

Wednesday, 28th September, at
9am - 11am Bogota / 10am - 12pm New York
4pm - 6pm Paris / 5pm - 7pm Nairobi.
Interpretation will be provided in Swahili, Spanish, and French.

Register today to reserve your spot!

In solidarity,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
