On the way to the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, under the theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity,” the world seems more divided than ever by increasing disparities, racism, populism and violence. The pre-assembly, with the leadership of specialized ministries, is the opportunity to articulate a common response to the most pressing issues of our time and to propose common action. The pre-assembly, hosted in collaboration with ACT Alliance, comes soon after the ACT General Assembly in 2021 and builds on some of its outcomes related to the climate crisis, power relations, discrimination, racism, fundamentalism and democracy. The pre-assembly will have three primary goals: To define the urgent issues that compel our common action in a time of uncertainty; to articulate a response to the brokenness and increasing discrimination that threaten creation and the human family; and to communicate this shared vision as the ecumenical movement journeys toward justice, peace and reconciliation. Rev. Nathan Day Wilson, who serves as the WCC liaison for specialized ministries, said he looks forward to both the insights and the inspiration that will be shared at the pre-assembly. “As I speak with our WCC partners in specialized ministries, I hear from them how critically important it is to gather at this time,” said Wilson. “They are looking forward to a much-needed space to meet in a spirit of love, to encourage each other, to share the ways in which they are helping and, most of all, hearing the voices of the growing number of people in need across the world.” Learn more about this event |
