Start your weekend off by telling Wall Street: we need climate justice

TL; DR: Do you bank with Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo or Bank of America? Join 10,000 other customers in signing an open letter, demanding that these banks stop funding the fossil fuel industry. Then, hold an action hour with your community to tell Bank of America to stop immoral funding for the Sunshine Project in St. James, Louisiana AKA “Cancer Alley”.

Rev.

Last night, we held an action hour targeted at Bank of America about the Formosa Sunshine plastics plant, a proposed petrochemicals plant in St. James, Louisiana - in an area known as "Cancer Alley". This project would exacerbate already existing environmental racism and be a major contributor to the climate crisis.

We heard a stirring call to action from the Rev Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus and a courageous and galvanizing testimony from Sharon LaVigne, founder of Rise St. James.

If you missed this amazing call, you can watch the recording here.

Since the Paris Agreement was signed, Wall Street banks have loaned nearly $1.2 trillion to the fossil fuel industry―money that is used to build new coal mines and oil pipelines―targeting communities of color and communities least responsible for climate change.

The good news: you can help! Use this toolkit to hold an action hour of your own. Gather your community together and take action online together to tell Bank of America to say no to environmental racism! This toolkit includes a sample script and all the materials you need.

People of faith have long known that we must hold industries with power accountable to make the world a more just and compassionate place for all.

Here’s another way you can take action:

Since September, nearly 10,000 customers of Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo and Bank of America have joined the Customers for Climate Justice campaign and signed open letters to the CEOs of their banks. GreenFaith circles and members have also been putting pressure on local bank branches and institutions to pressure them to stop funding the climate crisis.

If you bank with Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo or Bank of America, please join thousands of other customers and sign on to the Customers for Climate Justice Open Letter to CEOs.

At GreenFaith, we’re partnering with this campaign as part of our climate finance work. Let’s do this together.

In solidarity,

The GreenFaith Team
