Politicians in the State of Florida and the United States at large are attempting to push forth a dangerous bill in Florida’s legislature that would prohibit educators from discussing sexual orientation or identity with their students.

This bill would deny vulnerable youth a safe space to discuss these topics with trusted adults (such as some educators) in their lives, and yet Walgreens is supporting this bill and any potential amendments that may be added moving forward.

Walgreens says it is pro equality, and claims "ally" status with the LGBTQIA+ community, and even goes as far as to sell LGBTQIA+ merchandise during LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. However, they donated $28,000 to politicians backing this blatantly homophobic and transphobic bill. Walgreens funds politicians who are sending Florida children the message that their sexuality or gender expression are wrong. Or that the sexualities of their parents or loved ones are wrong.

Parents who believe their children have been exposed to discussion that is not "age appropriate" could sue the schools for said discussion. This demonizes LGBTQIA+ relationships across the state. We will have young students be told that their relationships or the relationships of their parents is inherently wrong and not permissible in discussion.

For a company that says it values its "ally" status within the LGBTQIA+ community, Walgreens is backing a bill that is actively harmful towards this community, and it is a deliberate attack on LGBTQIA+ individuals’ basic human rights.

We urge you to sign this petition to send this message to Walgreens: that you can’t claim to be pro LGBTQIA+ rights during Pride month, yet behind closed doors, give money to politicians who are harming LGBTQIA+ youth across the country.
