The healthcare system in the United States has been crumbling for decades, however COVID-19 appears to have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. This solution ignores the reason that ALL practitioners are leaving the bedside: Poor staffing, poor pay, rampant abuse by patients and hospital systems, and the crippling strain of burn out caused by these issues. This will further feed the national staffing shortage facing the healthcare field by forcing practitioners into a corner, where their only options are to leave the bedside or tolerate abhorrent working conditions (American Medical Association ). Please join me in this endeavor by signing this petition, and contacting your local legislators and telling them that
1.) The solution is not to cap agency pay. This is a step towards capping the pay of staff nurses, physicians, physicians’ associates, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and all those working hard for your loved ones. Furthermore, it will only push more practitioners from the bedside. and
