The United Church of Canada believes access to food is a basic right. The experience of the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that vulnerable people are the most at risk in the midst of a crisis. A large part of the world lives with the reality of not having enough food for their families.
Find out more about the ways The United Church of Canada is working to end food insecurity with local, national, and global partners.
For World Food Day, on October 16, and World Food Sunday, on October 18, we invite you to join with others across the United Church in a compassionate response to hunger. Share a World Food Day prayer by Michael Shewburg of Five Oaks, and take part in an online prayer service hosted by the World Council of Churches.
Take the opportunity to reflect on how you are responding to food insecurity in your own community. Together we can make a difference.

Dignity for All
Chew on This! 2020
[Image credit: Dignity for All]October 17 is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Each year on this day, the annual Chew on This! campaign mobilizes people from across Canada to call for an end to poverty. As a coalition of community organizations, faith communities, and citizens, the Dignity for All campaign is calling on the Government of Canada to do what is legally and morally required to uphold and protect the rights of people experiencing poverty and other intersecting forms of systemic oppression in Canada.
Join us on October 17, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, for #ChewonThis as together we call for an end to poverty in Canada.
A line up of incredible webinars are offered this week, and you can find a host of ways to take action on Dignity for All's website.
*This campaign includes an ask for a guaranteed basic income among the “universally accessible public systems” it is calling for. You may wish to use the UCC Guaranteed Livable Income video messages from former moderators as part of your participation in this day as well. |
