Weeks after a Kentucky grand jury returned no indictments against police in connection with the shooting death of Breonna Taylor, the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) says the denomination should continue to seek justice.

Leading up to and following the grand jury’s decision last month, the city of Louisville, Kentucky, saw several weeks of demonstrations in the downtown area. The PC(USA) also held a march to the city square, where groups have demonstrated in front of its courts and corrections systems.

“We are a society that boasts affirming the personhood of all people, but we know what history represents from Native Americans to the slavery of African Americans and indentured servitude,” said the Reverend Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II. “All that went on historically is still being played out today with regards to the issue of race.”
