Presbyterians differ on the issue of our religious observation–or not—of Christmas. Being spiritual heirs of the Reformation, conscientious Presbyterians aim to search the Scriptures for God’s authorization on all matters of faith and life. When considering the religious celebration of Advent and Christmas, we Presbyterians come down in rather divergent places ranging from the more colorful, ebullient tradition of Luther (think of the well-worn recitations of Luke 2:1-20) to the far leaner “regulative principle” tradition of Knox and others (think Leviticus 10:1-2). Former PPL Board member and PC(USA) Elder, Martha Leatherman, MD, rebukes the leadership of the PC(USA) for its increasingly aggressive actions regarding abortion, and calls for denominational and individual repentance. PC(USA): Swimming in the Blood of the Lambs A denomination defiantly swimming in bloodguilt cannot uphold the gospel of Christ. Moderation in pursuit of justice is a vice, and I urge each of you to be immoderate in your passion for defending the defenseless.    What will it take for the PC(USA) to see the blood running down the hallways of its institutions, staining the feet of its membership and dripping from the hands that offer communion? Must we drown in blood before the PC(USA) recognizes its complicity in the genocide of more than 55 million human beings?   No longer does the largest Presbyterian denomination stand with John Calvin who asserts:   “...the unborn, though enclosed in the womb of his mother, is already a human being, and it is an almost monstrous crime to rob it of life which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man's house is his most secure place of refuge, it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy the unborn in the womb before it has come to light.”   Rather, the PC(USA) stands with the abortionist LeRoy Carhart, who even while basking in the adulation heaped upon him by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (of which the PC(USA) is a member organization), was providing substandard care to the mothers of the babies he was aborting. READ MORE IS GOD CALLING YOU TO SERVE ON THE PPL BOARD?   We are accepting applications for new board members interested in equipping Presbyterians to champion human life. There is no formal application paperwork beyond basic personal information, membership in a Presbyterian or Reformed congregation, and a statement of your personal interest in the prolife cause and what gifts and talents you believe you could bring to the board. Please also list two or three denominational references. Your application would be followed up with a phone interview.   Board terms are three years.  We meet monthly via ZOOM and ask board members to travel to attend our annual meeting in person, at the board member's expense. We are typically hosted by a church as a mission group.  Each board member is also asked to contribute an article to one monthly newsletter per year.   If you are a medical professional, pregnancy care center manager or caseworker, or have public speaking or publishing skills, those abilities and knowledge base are always appreciated, but not required.   Our current board members represent PC(USA), ECO, PCA and RPCNA, but some board members from the ARP, EPC and PCA have recently rotated off, and we hope for more robust representation from those denominations.   Please send inquiries via email to ppl@ppl.org with "Board Member Application" in the subject line, and may God bless your heart for the unborn and their families.
