We, the people of Stamford, Connecticut are requesting that the Connecticut State Attorney file charges for the deaths of Giovanni Vega Benis and Yuliana Arias Lozano on December 3, 2022 at the intersection of Washington Blvd and Main St. in Stamford, CT. Giovanni and Yuliana had finished working at La Cantina Mexican Restaurant when, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Michael Talbot, 24 yrs. old of Greenwich, CT drove his Mercedes striking both of them. Giovanni and Yuliana were on the crosswalk, as Talbot’s vehicle struck them, the force of the vehicle impact caused them to be thrown onto the opposite northbound lanes of Washington Blvd, south of Main Street. After his car suffered heavy damage, he kept driving, stopped further down the street and attempted to flee the scene. Witnesses were able to point police in the direction that Mr. Talbot fled. A responding officer located the suspect hiding behind a dumpster in the back of a nearby building.

It has been four days since the date of their death caused by Talbot and charges have yet to be filed against him. According to Stamford Police, they are "investigating", but video footage clearly shows that Talbot’s 2022 Mercedes struck both victims and sent them about 100 feet in the opposite direction, killing them.  What is the reason for the delay in this investigation by the Stamford Police Department? When will the state attorney’s office file charges? By delaying filing charges, the city of Stamford, the Stamford Police Department and the State attorney are doing a disservice to the Hispanic community. Due to his actions, two families have been destroyed, while he walks freely among us and hides his assets. One cannot help but question whether race plays a factor in this situation, as the victims, Giovanni and Yuliana were Hispanic workers in the service industry and Talbot, the culprit, is a white business owner from an affluent family. The reality remains that two people were brutally killed and now two children are left fatherless and a family in Colombia will never see their daughter again. They deserve justice!

WE DEMAND JUSTICE! WE DEMAND EQUAL TREATMENT!

WE, DEMAND TALBOT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!

WE DEMAND JUSTICE FOR GIOVANNI AND YULIANA!
