Tell Congress to Pass the American Rescue Plan

The COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding economic crisis are devastating families across the country. More than 23 million Americans have contracted COVID-19 and roughly 400,000 have already died.   On January 20th, President Biden released the American Rescue Plan, which is a $1.9 trillion comprehensive COVID relief proposal. The proposal includes $1,400 cash payments to individuals, improvements to the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, a $15 minimum wage increase, state and local aid, and many other relief efforts. The American Rescue Plan is an essential proposal that also provides critical aid to renters, people threatened with or experiencing homelessness, households unable to pay heat or water bills, and offers an extension of the eviction and foreclosure moratoria.  Join the Office of Public Witness in Urging Your members of Congress to Support the American Rescue Plan! Our new Congress must immediately address the COVID crisis head-on. Absent aggressive action, the economic and public health crisis will continue to affect millions of people. There needs to be legislation that is broad in scope and size to address the many facets of the complex disaster that is the COVID crisis. The PC(U.S.A.) recognizes God’s call to actively engage in the world around us and care for the most marginalized people in our society. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted low wealth communities and Black, Ingenious and Communities of Color. As a Matthew 25 church, we are committed to advocating for policies that will benefit the most marginalized populations. This commitment is especially important now.   It is critical that your member of Congress hear from you on why this legislation needed. Congress must move quickly to pass measures that will address the increasingly urgent needs of people and families who are struggling as a result of the pandemic.
