Five billion people do not have access to safe, affordable surgical and anesthesia care when needed. Access is worse in low-income and lower-middle-income countries, where nine of ten people cannot access basic surgical care. In some places in Africa today there may be only one surgeon for a population of 2.5 million people. It is clear that the poorest of the poor need our help. At the same time a good surgical department can be a critical financial lifeline for a mission hospital and one of the best strategies for helping establish long-term sustainability.
Join us on Tuesday night, May 12th, 2020, at 8 pm eastern / 7 central for a conversation with Dr. Kier Thelander, Chief Medical Officer of PAACS (Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons). PAACS is a non-denominational, multinational service organization helping to establish surgical residencies and train African physicians to become surgeons. In turn, these doctors would remain to address the grave shortage of surgeons in Africa.
Dr. Thelander and his family served in Gabon Africa from 2006 to 2016, where he was the Surgery Residency Program Director at Bongolo Hospital. They returned to the US in 2016, when Keir was selected to become the Chief Medical Officer of PAACS.
Please have your questions ready for us. We look forward to joining you live online via Zoom or on Facebook Live on Tuesday at 5 pm PDT/7 pm CDT/8 pm EDT. If you choose to view with Zoom you will need to pay attention to both the login and the password included for you below.
Blessings,
