This Thursday, May 14, the Vatican has declared a “special day of prayer, fasting, and charitable work to implore God to help humanity overcome the Coronavirus pandemic.”
Many faith communities around the world have signed on. The Lutheran World Federation President said, “The world needs unity and solidarity across borders to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.” “The overwhelming response...from leaders and peoples around the world is a true testament to human solidarity and grants us hope in achieving global unity,” notes Judge Mohamed Abdel Salam, Secretary-General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity
We believe that supporting each other is as important today--during this global pandemic--as it is tomorrow as we face an accelerating climate crisis. GreenFaith is joining the Day of Prayer with our two Thursday Faith Community Calls for Care and Resilience, on May 14 at 11 or 4 pm New York Time.
We’ve invited a special guest from the Vatican to lead the spiritual reflection: Fr. Joshtrom Isaac Kureethadam SDB. Fr. Kureethadam is the coordinator of the Sector on Ecology and Creation at the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and a professor of philosophy at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, May 14, for spiritual reflection, prayer, and mutual support. Please register here for either call.
We also want to share two helpful resources that we’ve compiled. We hope you enjoy them!
- During the calls, you generously shared poems, prayers, and music that give you solace during this time. A curated selection is here: Spiritual Resources for Care and Resilience in the Time of Coronavirus.
- We’ve been learning how to build Circles of Care and Resilience in our neighborhoods and houses of worship. Here are helpful tips and tools on how to tangibly and actively support each other: Creating Circles: Communities of Care and Resilience.
Together, we will continue to build social and spiritual connections in this time.
In faith,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
