You are such an important part of the growing number of Circles of Care and Resilience that are starting up all over the world. Thank you for being there!
If you missed what thousands of people in the GreenFaith community are doing every week: We are coming together in a weekly Faith Community Call of Care and Resilience to reflect with a faith leader from a different tradition, to find spiritual respite, and to share ways to build our own Circles of Care and Resilience within our congregations and neighborhoods.
We believe that this is as important today--during this global pandemic--as it is tomorrow as we face an accelerating climate crisis.
This week’s Faith Community Call for Resilience on Thursday, May 28, is truly special.
We are welcoming the Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi, a Theravada Buddhist monk who currently lives and teaches at Chuang Yen Monastery in New York. He is the president of the Buddhist Association of the United States and founder of the organization Buddhist Global Relief, which funds projects to fight hunger and to empower women across the world.
He will speak about the Buddhist practices--'rejoicing in the merits and virtues of others,' and 'sharing one's merits with others'--that help strengthen our sense of interconnection, interdependence, and mutual responsibility during this critical time, and indeed at all times. Don’t miss this week’s Faith Community Call.
The Thursday Faith Community Calls for Care and Resilience on May 28 are held at either 11 or 4 pm New York Time--please join the call that is most convenient for you.
In this moment of global pandemic and economic crisis, we feel called to do everything that we can to transform our fear into love, and our sadness and anger into action. We know that you feel the same, and we are so glad we are in this together with you.
In faith,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
P.S. Last week, we also announced the largest fossil fuel divestment to date led by a powerful coalition of faith institutions around the world. There has been a long history of leadership among faith communities to divest from fossil fuels and the banks that finance these extractive industries. GreenFaith has long been a leader in supporting faith institutions’ divestment and reinvestment into green energy, and we are so honored to be part of this movement. You can read more here.
