From Green Faith - A special guest for Thursday's Care and Resilience Call

What a week! You might have seen that we announced yesterday the largest fossil fuel divestment to date - led by a powerful coalition of faith institutions around the world.
There has been a long history of leadership among faith communities to divest from fossil fuels and the banks that finance these extractive industries. Since 2012, the fossil fuel divestment movement has mobilized more than $14 trillion in commitments from nearly 1,200 institutions. Faith communities, at 30%, make up the largest share of these divestment pledges. GreenFaith has long been a leader in supporting faith institutions’ divestment and reinvestment into green energy and we are so honored to be part of this campaign. You can read more here.
This is also the last week of Ramadan. With a worldwide lock-down amidst the global pandemic, this Ramadan has been difficult for our Muslim sisters and brothers. To celebrate Eid al Fitr later this week in our wonderful community, we have invited a special guest for the Thursday Faith Community Calls for Care and Resilience, on May 21 at 11 or 4 pm New York Time.

Joining us to lead the spiritual reflection is Ms. Hening Parlan. Hening is the National Environmental Coordinator of Aisyiah, an Islamic non-governmental organization in Indonesia. During the COVID19 pandemic, Aisyiah’s response has been to greatly increase its humanitarian work. The concept behind is that of "Ta'Awun" or "cooperation.” It is a basic moral of Islamic society that focuses on empowerment, rather than charity only. It asks everyone to give what they can and care for each other - something we have been talking about a lot in the weekly Faith Community Calls.
Together, we continue to change ourselves, stand for each other, and hold the institutions around us accountable. See you on Thursday!
In faith,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
