During my years at Russell High School, our student body has been served questionable food. There have been many times where the food has been molded, meat has been purple, pink and gray, and cartons of spoiled milk. It’s unacceptable to serve students what we have been given. School meals are some students only source of nutritional value. The quality and quantity NEEDS to change,to aid students in being as healthy as possible. Research shows that there is a strong correlation between nutritional meals and academic performance. Students show improvement on achievement tests when given the opportunity to have a healthy snack, breakfast and lunch. Could there be a link in the decline of Russell’s test scores and the post pandemic meals that have been provided? Healthy food choices prepare our students to go into their classes feeling better physically and mentally. We, as a student body, would like to request a positive improvement of school lunches, that are provided daily. This improvement would include: hot, nutritious meals, with appropriate serving sizes and enough food to serve every student in our school district. If you would like to show your support, please sign below. Thank you. Sincerely, Macon Adkins Class of ’22
