Get Vandy to Take Action Regarding Sexual Assaults

Thus far in the semester, Vanderbilt has sent out seven emails to its student population informing them of sexual assaults occurring on campus. These emails contain the same exact five copy-pasted bullet points informing students of the general illegality and criteria of sexual assault. Vanderbilt has not, however, taken any actions whatsoever to make their students feel safer or to prosecute those students creating this dangerous environment. Vanderbilt admin needs to understand that simply alerting us of our lack of safety after every weekend does absolutely nothing. Those in charge need to implement actual changes -- such as taking action to suspend or expel any assaulters and then including in their emails what exactly was done about each assault. Students here have filed Title IX charges just to have their assaulters be given the option of having these charges on their permanent record. Such injustice is not unique. Every student here has their own story to share. Sign this petition to show Vanderbilt admin that we demand proper handling of sexual assault and effective and honest communication. We deserve to walk home after a late night of studying without constantly looking for potential attackers behind us. We deserve to be able to feel safe in our dorms without double- and triple-checking that our door is locked. We deserve to not feel the dread of checking our inboxes after each weekend in anticipation of yet another notice. And, most importantly, we deserve more action from Vanderbilt to ensure our wellbeing than a simple email that brushes past Vanderbilt’s serious problem.
