Confronting the triple evils of racism, militarism, and materialism

Standing in gratitude for Dr. King's radical legacy of nonviolence
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was radical.

Radical = at the roots.

King's message, ministry, and organizing got at the roots of the triple evils of militarism, racism, and materialism. All three evils are violence, and the only way to create a world of peace is through wholly nonviolent means; peace grows when nonviolence is the root.

Nonviolence, however, does not mean passivity. King's first principle of nonviolence is that "nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people." This week, we celebrate King by recommitting to nonviolence, by lifting up examples of people from Palestine to Turtle Island who are courageously practicing nonviolence by taking action to dismantle the prison industrial complex, by resisting state repression in Palestine, and by standing up for voting rights in the US.

We continue to be challenged and inspired by King's life of courageous nonviolence, and we seek to honor him by confronting the triple evils of racism, militarism, and materialism at the roots.

With gratitude,
Rev. Emily Brewer
Abolition is about presence
"Abolition is not about avoiding tension or tearing things down for the sake of tearing them down. It’s about presence, about showing up with our full selves, trusting that the Spirit is empowering us to create what is needed for our collective thriving so that we can say a definitive ‘yes’ with movement leader Angela Davis to the question that titles her 2003 book, 'Are Prisons Obsolete?'"

The Stories I Never Knew
Bill Plitt is a longtime friend of PPF and a Presbyterian elder. In December, he published, The Stories I Never Knewa book of stories about the people he met during his many visits to Palestine and Israel. Much of the book is about the story of the Tent of Nations, a holy place many in PPF have visited on delegations.

The Nassar family farm is just outside of Bethlehem and the Nassar's have called up the international community to support them in using nonviolence to protect their farm from being stolen by the Israeli state.

Whether you have been to Palestine a dozen times or haven't known how to enter into the movement for Palestinian liberation, this book is a beautiful way to connect with the stories of people who Bill has met in his journeys through Palestine and Israel.

You can also register here for his book talk on February 7th at 1:00p ET. PPF is sponsoring the event.
