PASS THE COVID-19 HATE CRIMES ACT

We need your help reporting our hate so we can stop dying in silence. Please urge Congress’ immediate passing of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, created by AAPI politicians: Senator Hirono, Congresswoman Meng, and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chairwoman Chu. The Act was created in May of 2020, and would expedite the federal government’s response to the rise of hate crimes exacerbated during the pandemic, support state and local governments to improve hate crimes reporting, and ensure that hate crimes information is more accessible to Asian American communities. It has now been almost a year since this bill has been introduced. There have been nearly 3,800 reports of hate incidents targeting Asian-Americans nationwide in the last year since March 2020, according to Stop AAPI Hate. For over a year now, our mothers and our elders have been being publicly brutalized, attacked, slashed, targeted, murdered, shot, and dehumanized in silence. In the last five months, there have been 2,800 hate incidents reported nationwide alone. Hate crimes against Asian-Americans have also typically gone massively underreported out of fear and silence. On March 16, 2021, 8 people were shot and killed in an act of white terrorism in Asian-owned spas in Atlanta. 6 out of 8 of the victims were Asian women. The media does not call it for what it is: a racially-motivated hate crime and attack on Asian-American communities. We need the immediate passing of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act by Congress. We need your help in protecting our communities with providing proper infrastructure for effective, widespread hate crimes reporting. We urge all members of the New York House of Representatives who have yet to co-sponsor this bill to push the passing of this bill within Congress, as well as GA Senators Ossoff and Warnock. We urge President Biden, VP Harris, and every politician to strongly condemn these anti-Asian hate crimes and to make tangible, legislative change. We urge every human to sign this petition and help us demand the visibility we need to stand strongly against anti-Asian xenophobia and hate.
