This Mother’s Day, raise your moral voice to promote equality for women, and for all people, under the law. With a final push, we can add the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the U.S. Constitution — an amendment that will ensure our laws protect people from discrimination based on their sex. Ask your senators to vote in favor of adding this important amendment to the Constitution.
Last year, after 100 years of advocacy, Virginia became the final state needed to approve adding the ERA to the Constitution. Unfortunately, the approval came after a deadline established by Congress nearly 50 years ago. As Christians, we are called to treat each person as an image-bearer of God. The ERA will uphold this basic fact of human dignity by ensuring equal treatment under the law. Both the House and Senate recently introduced a bill that would remove the deadline currently preventing the addition of the ERA to the Constitution. The bill would clear the way for full legal recognition and protection of gender equality. Advocating for the ERA is an opportunity to take your moral leadership beyond the church and into greater society. The bill passed in the House in March. Now, we need your help to get it passed in the Senate! Ask your senators to vote to remove the ERA deadline.
