I'll admit it—I haven't been sleeping well, both before and since Election Night. Deep anxiety over what another Trump presidency means for the most vulnerable and our collective future has been lodged deep in my spirit ever since I found out the election results when I awoke early Wednesday morning. This is a hard and traumatic time for so many of us, and as I wrote in my column for Sojourners last week, it's both normal and even necessary to rest before we reset. The airplane metaphor is apt here—you need to secure your own oxygen mask first before you can help the person next to you or around you. But I know something else too: people in the most vulnerable situations in our society and around the world can't afford for us to give up that struggle, and the teachings of our faith won't let us do that either. Even as we take that time to care for ourselves and others, Sojourners is also looking forward. We know that as president-elect Trump takes office, we'll be on the front lines of inspiring hope, speaking truth to power, and articulating and mobilizing people around the biblical call to social justice, just as we have always done. We also know that we'll be doing everything we can to speak out for and inspire action to protect migrant people, people marginalized by the scourge of systemic racism, women and girls, LGBTQ+ people, our planet's fragile climate, people experiencing poverty, and more. We will also be offering church leaders and churches practical additional resources and tools to foster greater unity and combat toxic polarization while staying rooted in shared values. In the meantime, as we collectively prepare for the transition of power, Sojourners is sending a new thrice-weekly newsletter, the Truth and Action Roundup, to provide timely information, opportunities for action, and spiritual sustenance. Together, and with God's guidance and strength, we'll get through this. Will you sojourn with us? With prayer and gratitude, Rev. Adam Russell Taylor
