Christmas Joy Offering Impact: Jenni's Story

Jenni's Story

Jenni Whitford is a Christian educator whose world was turned upside down with just a single phone call.

“I came home from a session meeting and got a call that my husband, Ken, had collapsed,” ~Jenni Whitford

When she and her children, ages 9 and 12, arrived at the hospital, they learned that Ken had died of an aortic aneurysm.

To make matters scarier, Ken carried the family’s health insurance and Jenni found it was only paid through the end of the month.

Facing this financial challenge at a time of “chaos, upheaval and huge emotions,” she found the support she needed through the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions (BOP).In partnership with Lake Michigan Presbytery, the BOP granted her immediate, emergency assistance by covering the family’s medical premiums for two years.

The grant Jenni received was made possible, in part, by gifts to the Christmas Joy Offering. This helped Jenni and her family through this difficult time by bringing a sense of peace that wouldn’t have been possible without it.
