Support Indigenous-led organizing

GreenFaith Logo

Today, we invite you to make a contribution to the Indigenous Environmental Network, an organization that has provided invaluable leadership in the climate justice movement, calling for Indigenous sovereignty and an end to fossil fuels. Their work is hugely important.

Around the globe, Indigenous people are standing up against destructive extractive industries: illegal logging and mining in the Amazon and Indonesia, oil and gas pipelines that cross wild rice fields and treaty-protected lands in North America, and more.

Many governments have made treaties with Indigenous communities and passed laws protecting their rights and lands - then have utterly disregarded these agreements when corporations want natural resources from those lands.

So today, we’re recognizing and expressing our gratitude for Indigenous communities and their climate leadership. We’re committed to strengthening our support for and relationships with these communities. We’re committed to learning more about their sovereignty and acknowledging the past history of genocide and violence against these communities, often perpetrated by religious communities.

Rather than perpetuating a dishonest Thanksgiving narrative of peaceful coexistence between Indigenous people and colonial settlers, we want to acknowledge the painful truth and show honor and appreciation where it is due.

We also invite you to take a moment today, with family or friends, to reflect on the history of this country’s mistreatment of Indigenous people. Then, support Indigenous-led organizing for climate justice.

In warmth and solidarity,

Rev. Fletcher and the GreenFaith Crew
