Change.org - Stolen indigenous artifacts

Stephanie is a member of the Taino people, who were the first Indigenous people to be colonized in North America. She recently learned that Christie’s is planning to auction off sacred artifacts from the Taino people next Wednesday, 11/10. “So much of our culture was lost and innumerable of our sacred artifacts destroyed or stolen by Europeans since 1492,” Stephanie writes. She wants Christie’s to stop the auction and return these artifacts to the Taino people. Add your name to voice your support.

We, the Taino, are the first indigenous peoples of Turtle Island to be colonized. We are not "extinct" and survived the horrors of Columbus and his men. So much of our culture was lost and innumerable of our sacred artifacts destroyed or stolen by Europeans since 1492.

Christie’s is selling Taino Masterworks that hold invaluable sacred, historical, and cultural importance to the Taino peoples.

Please sign our petition to halt the November 10th auction, with hopes that these artifacts can be returned to the island of their indigenous Taino creators so that they may be honored, studied, and displayed for cultural education by the Taino in their homeland.
