Show up for your faith: Delegation to Minnesota, and more!

Happy almost-Pentecost.

We're writing to let you know about three opportunities to act, learn, and read in the resistance against the fossil fuel industry as people of faith.

Read below to learn more about the delegation to Line 3 in Minnesota in response to Indigenous leaders on the ground calling for interfaith solidarity.

Register below to learn from Bill McKibben and Tara Houska (and other grassroots leaders including abby mohaupt) about the eco-theologies behind resisting fossil fuels.

And read about the international divestment announcement that went out yesterday, including National Capital Presbytery.

Together we can hold the fossil fuel industry accountable.

Indigenous leaders have called upon faith leaders to join them June 5-8 as they continue their fight to #StopLine3 to put our bodies on the line, to stop construction and tell the world that the days of tar sands pipelines are over in a major, nonviolent uprising.

Join a group of Fossil Free PCUSA and PPF Activist Council members as part of this witness. Sign up here to be part of the PPF/FFPCUSA cohort and we’ll send you the information you need to officially join the delegation of faith leaders. Here’s the info you need to know:

When: June 5-8 (you must arrive at the MSP airport and be ready to leave the airport no later than 2:00 CT on June 5; you will be able to fly out of MSP in late afternoon/evening on June 8)

Who: faith leaders (clergy, elders, activists, other leaders) who are fully vaccinated and committed to nonviolence

Where: Anishinaabe treaty land and the Mississippi Headwaters (Northern Minnesota, near Park Rapids)

Lodging: at a UMC camp with the other 150 faith leaders

Cost: transportation to/from the MSP airport (lodging, food, and ground transportation are covered once you’re there); PPF will help fundraise for the flight costs, but you’ll need to pay up front and get reimbursed.

More info? Register for an info call on Thursday, May 20 at 5pm ET.

Not only is fossil fuel pollution the primary cause of climate change; it’s also responsible for 1 in 5 deaths worldwide. These are precious lives and preventable deaths — sacred breath snuffed out for the sake of profits. Join GreenFaith on May 19 call at either 12 pm or 7 pm ET for moral inspiration and to learn about our why.

Author and longtime friend Bill McKibben and Water Protector Tara Houska will join us as religious activists from the U.S. and Africa call us to act. You’ll connect with allies in small groups and we’ll commit to action, together. Sign up here to join the call.
A global coalition of 36 faith institutions from 11 countries just announced their divestment from fossil fuels and call for a #JustRecovery ahead of G7 and COP26. The announcement includes National Capital Presbytery. Read more here: https://brightnow.org.uk/news/global-faith-institutions-divest-g7-cop26
