Limited invitation: Join us at the Line 3 Treaty People Gathering in June

GreenFaith Logo

Last November, the GreenFaith International Network released our ten demands, ethical criteria by which climate action should be judged. Two of the demands were “No new fossil fuel infrastructure” and “Respect Indigenous Rights”.

These demands are not empty words. They are our moral compass. That’s why it’s time to take action to stop the Line 3 pipeline.

Register for an info session next Monday or Thursday to learn more about the GreenFaith multi-faith delegation to stop the Line 3 oil pipeline.

Because of all the actions you’ve taken with the GreenFaith community this past year, we are making this special invitation for you to join us from June 5-8 for the Treaty People Gathering in Minnesota, where the Line 3 oil pipeline expansion project would take place. During these four days, there will be community building, bold mobilization, and peaceful action to call on President Biden to revoke the project permits, and stop Line 3 and all fossil fuel infrastructure.

Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light and Indigenous leaders have invited GreenFaith to organize a national, multi-faith delegation to come to Minnesota in a strong show of support to stop the pipeline and respect Indigenous rights. We are ready to show up in solidarity, and in a way that is respectful and helpful.

We have a limited number of spaces available for the delegation and we want you to join us.

Join us next Monday OR Thursday at an info session to learn what’s happening on the ground, how the GreenFaith delegation will show up and what we’ll do and provide, and how to get your religious community involved in this fight.

Background: For many years, Indigenous people in Northern Minnesota have led the fight against the Line 3 pipeline, a destructive project that would threaten sacred air, water, land, and our climate by transporting hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil daily.

Despite valiant grassroots opposition, the state of Minnesota has issued permits to build the project.

But - President Biden could revoke federal permits for the project. This move would echo President Obama’s action in 2016 when he revoked the permits for the Dakota Access Pipeline because of the resistance happening in Standing Rock.

Following Indigenous leadership, our goal is to bring a strong faith contingent to Minnesota, joining with allies around the country and on the ground. We’ll put pressure on the Biden administration to revoke these permits. Then we’ll bring this organizing energy back to our local communities and build a stronger movement.

As people of faith, we stand for justice, and alongside the most vulnerable. The time has come for us to take action on these values.

Join our info session next Monday at 8pm ET/7pm CT/5pm PT or Thursday at 5pm ET/4pm CT/2pm PT to learn how you can join the GreenFaith delegation. Spread the word and bring others who may want to join you.

Last November, thousands of people around the globe joined our Sacred People Sacred Earth day of action. At 420 faith-rooted actions in 49 countries, people of diverse religions embraced the ten demands, including no new fossil fuel infrastructure.

We are going to bring that same spiritual strength, moral clarity, and people power to Minnesota this June. Join us!

See you on the info session.

In faith and solidarity,

Sara Shor

PS. If you are already ready to join the delegation, you can go ahead and sign up here.
