Tell the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019

In September 2017, the Trump administration announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). In response, over three groups or individuals filed lawsuits which went before the Supreme Court of the United States. We are waiting on the Supreme Court’s final ruling regarding the legality of DACA termination. The decision is expected to be made this month; we are prayerful that the Supreme court will rule in favor of DACA. If the Supreme Court affirms the legality of DACA, current Dreamers, individuals under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and individuals under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status will still need protection. Tell the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019. The American Dream and Promise Act of 2019 provides Dreamers with the status of  “conditional permanent resident” for up to 10 years and the opportunity to eventually apply for “lawful permanent resident” status. Additionally, the act would cancel deportation proceedings for certain individuals under Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure status. These individuals would also be able to apply to be green card holders in the future. The bill passed the House of Representatives exactly one year ago this month, and we are still waiting for it to be introduced in the Senate. The American Dream and Promise Act would protect 2.6 million immigrants, including 700,00 DACA recipients, 1.6 million Dreamers, 300,000 individuals under TPS, and 3,600 people who qualify as DED. Without these protections, many closed deportation cases will reopen, individuals could be separated from their families and will constantly live in fear of being identified, detained, and deported. Now is the time to speak up and encourage the Senate to vote in favor of compassionate immigration reform. Take Action Now and Tell the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019. With immigration policy becoming increasingly more strict and dehumanizing, we must live up to our call of hospitality and love. At the 220th Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) General Assembly, we approved a resolution advocating for comprehensive immigration reform at a federal level. The resolution envisioned a compassionate approach to policy that prioritizes the family unit and provides realistic options for permanent residency, both aspects of the American Dream and Promise Act.  We must speak up and advocate for compassionate policy reform. Write your Senators and demand that they vote in favor of American Dream and Promise Act!
