We are six weeks away from one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime. A series of voter suppression tactics — including sabotage of the postal system, disinformation campaigns, the threat of failure to timely count mail-in ballots, and voter intimidation tactics — threaten to determine the outcome of this next election. We invite you to join the movement. Please view and share this video with your congregation and networks and visit us online for more information at lawyersandcollars.org. ‘One person, one vote’ is a principle at the heart of our national identity, but making that real for all citizens has been the result of struggle by movements of the past, particularly Black, Indigenous, and people of color and women. This year, pernicious suppression efforts seek to undermine this core democratic value. Voter suppression is real, and these tactics are especially treacherous because they target those who are often in the most marginalized places. At the heart of our faith is another value: Christians look to Jesus as our example, who calls us to defend the defenseless, advocate for the overlooked, and stand up for those who are most oppressed. Sojourners is committed to this work and is answering the call in the lead-up to this next election through Lawyers & Collars/Turnout Sunday. Join us tomorrow for a call with Dr. Barbara Williams-Skinner to learn more about how you can join this movement.
If we are going to heal as a nation and overcome the dual pandemics that we have faced over this past year, then we must vote — and we must protect the vote. In solidarity, Rev. Terrance M. McKinley Director of Racial Justice Mobilizing |
In this blog, we'll look at how men and women at serving Jesus Christ both at home and abroad. We'll focus on how God is using their work to transform the lives of people all over the world.
