This past week, we hit the ground running on our Compassionate Voter Campaign. Already, we have hundreds of signers on the Compassionate Voter Pledge, and dozens of you have signed up to take on leadership roles in the campaign. We are also partnering with several different groups across the country and we expect our voter program to have a big impact. If you haven’t gotten involved yet, it’s not too late! For those of you who missed the kickoff call, GreenFaith is running a non-partisan Compassionate Voter Campaign to get as many people of faith voting compassionately in the upcoming US election. We are making the ties between voter suppression, climate change, and the moral responsibility to uphold our democracy. We are training religious leaders to be moral observers and signing up people of faith to be voter captains, who will have relational conversations with their friends and family about the importance of voting. This election is too important to sit out and there's still time to get involved! We still have spots open for Compassionate Voter Captains and Moral Observers. Compassionate Voter Captains will be reaching out and having conversations with at least 10 friends to make sure that they are registered to vote and have a plan to vote compassionately in the 2020 election. Voter captains will follow up with those friends to give them resources about voter registration deadlines, remind them to request their absentee or vote by mail ballots, and remind them when and where to vote. If you want to make sure that we have huge and compassionate turnout in this election, sign up as a voter captain and join us on Wednesday at 5:30pm ET. Moral Observers will be trained to identify acts of voter suppression, document them, and report on them on social media, to the press, and to legal supporters. We believe that having clergy, spiritual, and lay leaders identified and bearing witness at the polls and leading up to the election will lessen instances of voter suppression that are being predicted across the country. Because faith leaders serve as thought leaders and hold a moral high ground across the United States and world, we are trusted by the masses, and it is our job to make sure that our democracy is preserved and that everyone who is eligible and wants to cast a vote is able to do so. We will be having training calls for Moral Observers on Sept 23 and Sept 30. You can sign up for those here. We know that when people of faith come together, the world changes, even in the face of great challenges. Thank you for being part of this movement to bring about the transformation we envision--a world of flourishing life for all! Yours in hope and solidarity, Sara Shor PS.
