It’s been a brutal week in the United States with the full power of White supremacy in force, and anti-Blackness on display at every turn. Please read our message to the GreenFaith community on the blog.
We know that the struggle for racial and economic justice that is bringing hundreds of thousands of us into the streets is the same struggle for climate justice. The harm done disproportionately impacts people of color and the global south.
This part of our vision could not state it more clearly: We envision a world where we have created a world of flourishing life; where we have replaced despair with joy; scarcity with shared abundance; and privilege with justly distributed power.
As people of faith, we come together every week in the Faith Community Call of Care and Resilience to reflect with a faith leader, to find spiritual respite, and to connect with each other.
Please join us for this week’s Faith Community Call for Resilience on Thursday, June 4 to begin to create a world in which everyone can breathe, find joy, and be free.
For the spiritual reflection, we are welcoming Pastor Jack Ogeda of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nairobi, Kenya. Pastor Ogeda is a commissioner at the Inter-religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) on the Environment and is working closely with UNEP’s Faith for Earth program. He is also GreenFaith Kenya’s (interim) director.
In this moment we must transform fear into love, and sadness and anger into action. This is the time to recommit every day to being a force for love, justice, and compassion.
We know that you feel the same, and we are so glad we are in this together with you.
In faith,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
