Up to 50,000 no-knock warrants are issued in the United States each year. And they can be deadly. Police officers used this kind of warrant to justify breaking into Breonna Taylor’s apartment last year, killing her. The officer who sought the warrant for Breonna Taylor’s apartment has since been fired. But that’s not stopping a growing nationwide movement to ban no-knock warrants, and seek justice for Breonna Taylor’s death. In October, Virginia banned no-knock warrants. Kentucky is now considering a ban, as are Pennsylvania and Tennessee. There’s also federal legislation – the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act – and now might be the moment it sees real momentum in Congress. And you can help. Petition starter Loralei HoJay is working to secure passage of the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act. She’s spoken to Members of Congress, and both Democrats and Republicans support ending no-knock warrants.

“If this bill passes in Congress, no-knock warrants will be federally banned – and no one will have to die the way Breonna did, ever again,” Loralei says. “Get this legislation passed not only for Breonna, but to save the lives that we will lose senselessly to no-knock warrants.” President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have pledged to overhaul no-knock warrants while in office. With a new Congress in place, getting a bipartisan ban on no-knock warrants through the House and Senate has never had a more realistic path. But your lawmakers need to hear from you. That’s why Loralei needs your help to get a ban on no-knock warrants on Biden’s desk in his first 100 days in office.

This March will mark one year since Breonna Taylor was killed. Millions want action, and do not want to wait any longer for meaningful legislation to pass to help deliver justice. Loralei and millions like her believe now is the time for Congress to act. You can help them send that message by adding your name to this petition now. Thank you for taking action, Michael Jones
