With the annual olive harvest season in the Holy Land soon to draw to a close, the World Council of Churches (WCC) convenes a webinar on the topic ’Uprooting Identities or Planting Just Peace?’ on 2 December. Slated for 2 December, 16.00 CET, the webinar takes place at the conclusion of a unique WCC effort in 2020, to witness to the impact of occupation in connection with the annual olive harvesting season in the Holy Land. ”Throughout October and November this year, the WCC has sought to mobilize churches, ecumenical partners and others across the globe in a special olive harvest initiative,” reflects Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, WCC interim general secretary. ”Our aim has been to highlight the spiritual, economic and cultural importance of the olive harvest for Palestinian communities, and to witness to the impact of the occupation. It is now time to take stock of what the initiative has brought to the fore, harvest our key learnings from these efforts, and to reflect on this work in view of the bigger picture of efforts for peace in the Middle East,” Sauca adds. The webinar will be moderated by Peter Prove, WCC Director for International Affairs, and will feature speakers from a range of international agencies and local partners – all to address that central question: Uprooting Identities or Planting Just Peace?
