Breaking News: Call to Action for Pervis Payne's Commutation

TCR Breaking News: Call to Action for Pervis Payne's Commutation
Pervis Payne is a man with an intellectual disability who may well be completely innocent. His jury was misled through the prosecution’s reliance on racial stereotypes and withholding crucial evidence. Mr. Payne's execution was scheduled for December 3 but he was granted a reprieve by Governor Bill Lee until April 9, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AME leaders have joined the broad coalition of supporters demanding that Governor Lee commute Mr. Payne’s death sentence to life. Click here for a conversation between Bishop Jeffrey Leath of the 13th Episcopal District, which includes Tennessee and Kentucky, and Kelley Henry, Mr. Payne’s attorney.

We encourage you to send letters to the Governor of Tennessee Bill Lee to commute Mr. Payne's sentence.
