A press conference on children living with HIV is on the agenda.

The goal of the week and a half of workshops is to strengthen the engagement of religious leaders and the most affected populations in addressing the HIV pandemic to achieve both high-level and community-based impact. Topics will include living with HIV in the family, how stigma originates in premarital HIV testing, and the importance of adherence to treatment for young people living with HIV toward a positive life.  The activity will give birth to the Youth Advisory Board of the Christian Council of Nigeria, fulfilling a commitment to health and wellbeing of adolescents and young people.

In addition to discussions, the week will include commitments and statements by faith leaders to end stigma associated with HIV. The key findings of a report entitled “Analysis of the impact of HIV stigma in the uptake of services among women, children and adolescents” will be analyzed, particularly the findings related to HIV premarital testing and disclosure of HIV status for  children and young women.

The proceedings are results of the Framework for Dialogue—a methodology developed by the World Council of Churches, UNAIDS, INERELA (International Network of Religious Leaders Living with or Affected by HIV) and the Global Network of People Living with HIV—that reviews existing evidence on HIV stigma, conducts an analysis, and develops joint actions between faith leaders and communities.
