The Christian Recorder - Celebrate Juneteenth by Registering to Vote

In celebration of Juneteenth Freedom Day, we share this reflection by Rodney Cowan from the 6th Episcopal District.

All AME Church members should be encouraged to register to vote in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming November 2024 Presidential election. Parents with children 17 and a half or older should also register them to vote. It is important that all persons exercise their right to vote.  Your vote matters, and it can truly make a difference in the outcome of an election.  Please do not let voter apathy, misinformation, or even disinformation cause you not to exercise the right to vote.  Additionally, if you have children in college, we encourage you to guide them through the absentee voting process or, if possible, have them drive home to vote in all elections, not just the Presidential Election.

Below are the websites to register to vote, vote absentee, and vote early. Consider posting this information in your church bulletin and video announcements and reading the website link information aloud during announcements.

The 2024 Presidential Election will be held on November 5th.

The congregations of the AME Church throughout the United States can have a mighty impact on any election, and we make an intentional effort to have 100% voter turnout.  Please understand your worth and choose to exercise your right to vote.

In closing, I will leave you with two Scriptures to ponder:

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.  But when the wicked rule, the people mourn.

James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
