The WCC governing body called upon the Colombian government and all armed actors “to respect international humanitarian and human rights law” and “ensure that the civilian population is protected from violence and harm resulting from conflict.”

The statement called upon all armed groups in Colombia “to desist from kidnapping, and from the recruitment of minors.”

The WCC executive committee expressed deep appreciation to the churches, people, and government of Colombia for the opportunity to meet in Bogotá at “this pivotal moment in the search for just and sustainable peace.”

The WCC executive committee is meeting in Bogotá from 6-11 June, where the governing body is focusing on the business of the WCC and on absorbing the life and witness of churches at the heart of the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity.
